Diatomaceous earth filtration to maintain the quality of the extra virgin olive oil

Filtration with filter presses is used in the filtering of very dirty liquids such as oil immediately after the olives have been pressed. This technology uses filtering cloths mounted on plates in which the solid part separated by the cloth is accumulated. The cloth is then helped by the diatomaceous earth which is dosed in line during filtration. Thanks to the cloth and diatomaceous earth, the filter presses are used as DE filters for the rough filtration and polishing of extra virgin olive oil. This type of filtration carried out immediately after the olives are pressed, allows the organoleptic properties, typical of extra virgin olive oil, to preserved for longer. Depending on the volume to filter, there are presses measuring 40x40 cm, 50x50, 63x63, 80x80, etc. and the number of plates determines the machine’s filtering capacity.
