Reverse osmosis
Use of reverse osmosis water in beer production
Selected raw materials and excellent water are required to produce a top-quality beer. If spring water is not available, mains water is used which, as we all know, contains dissolved salts and minimal percentages of chlorine. The beer industry uses filtration systems such as reverse osmosis to eliminate these salts and to remove the mains water chlorine. Osmosis is a machine which separates these chemical elements by using dense spiral membranes, thus generating distilled water. If the water used is well water, however, it is pre-filtered with activated carbon and then a microfiltration step before using reverse osmosis. By working directly with brewers and analysis laboratories, Sfoggiatech can advise customers on the best solution for water filtration.
